After a long scandal with the 2023 NF and the 2024 internal selection, Poland reverted to a national final, but it’s 100% based on televoting. I hope this can help TVP avoid scandals. May the best song win (aka one of the songs in Polish).
In a true show of efficiency, Poland wasted very little time in getting on with the songs. There was still an opening act with Baby Lasagna miming to a playback of Rim Tim Tagi Dim and a quick introduction of the hosts.
This could’ve very easily been messy, but they pulled it off really well. The closest comparison to this is Poland’s 2019 entry, except these people can actually sing it, the melody is interesting and the staging is eye-catching. This would definitely attract a good televote in ESC.
While not overly original, this is nice. He has a nice voice, the melody is nice, and it just comes together. While it doesn’t inspire me too much, I think it’s pleasant and enjoyable. I don’t think it should win though.
I was expecting something better when it comes to the performance. It just came off as a total mess to me, which is disappointing as people have really hyped her up. And, to be fair, the song isn’t bad: it’s fun and dancey. But this live performance makes me feel entirely disconnected with the overall package. Still, this doesn’t completely ruin it for me.
It’s a song with no purpose. Yeah, he has a good voice, but there was no performance otherwise. He just walked around on stage looking lost and that was that. The song isn’t interesting either: it was just a very mediocre and uncreative ballad - and I’m saying this as someone who actually likes ballads more than most.
I didn’t think it was terrible, but I did think it was incredibly incohesive. It felt like the song tried to do a little bit of everything, despite staying as a fairly average ballad. Plus, it seemed like Daria was very nervous and stiff as a result, though at least her vocals were still good.
This is very unique in the best possible way. First, I really like the vocals. This isn’t a song that’s too hard to sing, but she sang it really well, even if some notes were a little off. Then, I really liked the staging: the blacks and the reds really help set the mood, while the backing singers/dancers really add some great energy. Finally, I really like that it is in a minority language. Podlachian sounds so cool. Poland, please send this.
This was another fairly mediocre song with a cringy package. He does have a good voice, but it lacks everything else. It’s impossible to ride on having a nice voice.
Eh. This is kinda nice as far as songs go, but not really inspiring. Still, it had its moments in the verses, but the chorus was kinda generic and uninspired. I think it would be a shame if this won.
There are only so many ways I can say that something was uninspired. I have no particular opinion about this at all. It’s just a song that exists.
As far as girlbops go, this was alright. She’s a good performer and the song is energetic, but I don’t think it interests me all that much regardless. Don’t get me wrong, it’s cute, but this just isn’t the kind of music that I like.
The song was sadly totally forgettable, which is a shame becuase the staging was on-point. Him being lifted by the backing dancers in the middle of the song was a bit cringy, but I didn’t dislike the other parts too much. But it doesn’t leave a huge impression from a musical standpoint anyway.
This was a decent lineup. There were still a lot of English-language ballads, just like in every other Polish NF, but only one song song was really bad. Overall, I’m pleased with the lineup. I’m really impressed with the production though: it was quick, snappy and efficient. All in all, the whole show took under 2 hours, didn’t waffle on, didn’t waste time on useless acts or comedy breaks. It was perhaps even a bit too hectic with its pacing, though not too much.
While the voting was going on, Baby Lasagna returned and pretended to sing three more songs from his new album. I didn’t really enjoy it, but I didn’t despise it either. It was just alright. And Michał Szpak performed some of his songs, including a ballad version of Colour of Your Life (with a “u”). It did its job of filling up the voting interval and was much more entertaining than ads.
The results reveal was very efficient too: they quickly went over the bottom 6 and then revealed the top 5 one by one. To nobody’s surprise, Justyna ended up winning it. I hope the performance can improve for Basel because the song is actually not so bad.
